What the Bible Says About Anger
"Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger."
— Ephesians 4:26 (ESV)Key Scriptures
"Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God."
"A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger."
"A fool gives full vent to his spirit, but a wise man quietly holds it back."
"But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth."
"Refrain from anger, and forsake wrath! Fret not yourself; it tends only to evil."
"Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you."
What Scripture Teaches
Anger itself is not always sin — God gets angry at injustice. But human anger is dangerous because it rarely produces God's righteousness.
Unresolved anger gives the devil a foothold (Ephesians 4:27). Deal with it quickly — don't let it fester into bitterness.
The root of sinful anger is often pride, unmet expectations, or a desire to control. Ask: what am I really upset about?
God's solution is not suppression but transformation — replacing wrath with kindness, bitterness with forgiveness.
