What the Bible Says About Temptation
"No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape."
— 1 Corinthians 10:13 (ESV)Key Scriptures
"Let no one say when he is tempted, I am being tempted by God, for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one."
"For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin."
"Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak."
"Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you."
"Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil."
"Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions."
What Scripture Teaches
Temptation is not sin. Being tempted is normal — even Jesus was tempted. Sin is giving in.
God always provides a way of escape. In every temptation, there is an exit door — take it.
Jesus defeated temptation by quoting specific Scripture (Matthew 4). Know God's Word.
Accountability removes the secrecy that temptation thrives in.
