1I love the LORD, because he hath heard my voice and my supplications.
2Because he hath inclined his ear unto me, therefore will I call upon him as long as I live.
3The sorrows of death compassed me, and the pains of hell gat hold upon me: I found trouble and sorrow.
4Then called I upon the name of the LORD; O LORD, I beseech thee, deliver my soul.
5Gracious is the LORD, and righteous; yea, our God is merciful.
6The LORD preserveth the simple: I was brought low, and he helped me.
7Return unto thy rest, O my soul; for the LORD hath dealt bountifully with thee.
8For thou hast delivered my soul from death, mine eyes from tears, and my feet from falling.
9I will walk before the LORD in the land of the living.
10I believed, therefore have I spoken: I was greatly afflicted:
11I said in my haste, All men are liars.
12What shall I render unto the LORD for all his benefits toward me?
13I will take the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the LORD.
14I will pay my vows unto the LORD now in the presence of all his people.
15Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.
16O LORD, truly I am thy servant; I am thy servant, and the son of thine handmaid: thou hast loosed my bonds.
17I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the LORD.
18I will pay my vows unto the LORD now in the presence of all his people,
19In the courts of the LORD’S house, in the midst of thee, O Jerusalem. Praise ye the LORD.

1I love the Lord because he heard my plea for mercy
2and listened to me. As long as I live, I will call to him when I need help.
3The ropes of death tightened around me, the snares of Sheol confronted me. I was confronted with trouble and sorrow.
4I called on the name of the Lord, “Please, Lord, rescue my life!”
5The Lord is merciful and fair; our God is compassionate.
6The Lord protects the untrained; I was in serious trouble and he delivered me.
7Rest once more, my soul, for the Lord has vindicated you.
8Yes, Lord, you rescued my life from death, kept my eyes from tears and my feet from stumbling.
9I will serve the Lord in the land of the living.
10I had faith when I said, “I am severely oppressed.”
11I rashly declared, “All men are liars.”
12How can I repay the Lord for all his acts of kindness to me?
13I will celebrate my deliverance and call on the name of the Lord.
14I will fulfill my vows to the Lord before all his people.
15The Lord values the lives of his faithful followers.
16Yes, Lord! I am indeed your servant; I am your servant, the son of your female servant. You saved me from death.
17I will present a thank offering to you, and call on the name of the Lord.
18I will fulfill my vows to the Lord before all his people,
19in the courts of the Lord’s temple, in your midst, O Jerusalem. Praise the Lord!
1I love Yahweh, because he listens to my voice, and my cries for mercy.
2Because he has turned his ear to me, therefore I will call on him as long as I live.
3The cords of death surrounded me, the pains of Sheol got a hold of me. I found trouble and sorrow.
4Then I called on Yahweh’s name: “Yahweh, I beg you, deliver my soul.”
5Yahweh is Gracious and righteous. Yes, our God is merciful.
6Yahweh preserves the simple. I was brought low, and he saved me.
7Return to your rest, my soul, for Yahweh has dealt bountifully with you.
8For you have delivered my soul from death, my eyes from tears, and my feet from falling.
9I will walk before Yahweh in the land of the living.
10I believed, therefore I said, “I was greatly afflicted.”
11I said in my haste, “All men are liars.”
12What will I give to Yahweh for all his benefits toward me?
13I will take the cup of salvation, and call on Yahweh’s name.
14I will pay my vows to Yahweh, yes, in the presence of all his people.
15Precious in Yahweh’s sight is the death of his saints.
16Yahweh, truly I am your servant. I am your servant, the son of your servant. You have freed me from my chains.
17I will offer to you the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call on Yahweh’s name.
18I will pay my vows to Yahweh, yes, in the presence of all his people,
19in the courts of Yahweh’s house, in the middle of you, Jerusalem. Praise Yah!

Reflection
- 1. "What shall I render?" (v.12). Ask this question regularly. In light of all God has done, what is your response? Not guilt but gratitude. Not obligation but overflow.
- 2. Take the cup (v.13). Salvation is received, not achieved. Your part is to take what God offers and call on His name. The cup is ready — extend your hand.
- 3. God values your life and death (v.15). You are not disposable. Your death is not trivial to God. Every one of His saints is precious — their departure is costly in His sight.
- 4. Return to rest (v.7). After every crisis, command your soul back to rest. The crisis is over; God has proven faithful. Don't live in perpetual anxiety when deliverance has already come.
- 5. Pay your vows publicly (vv.14, 18). Gratitude is not private only. What you promised God in the dark, fulfill in the light. Public testimony of God's faithfulness is a vow paid.
